Since I got rid of cable I have been getting some different networks that I did not know existed. A couple of them show old movies.
Last night watched 4 Ellery Queen movies from the 30's. Today some war movies that get me a bit upset.
First one was about the American division made up of all Japanese Americans and how brave they were. But nothing is mentioned about
how we treated them here in America. Did we lock up people of German decent like our mother and grandparents no but people of another race yes.
Next was about the black division actually had a young Richard Prior in it. But was their any mention about how we treated them
in the south or how at first Roosevelt wanted no black service men to be in combat. then about the Indians who used their language to
communicate in the Pacific. But no mention of our treatment of them through out our history.
As a child I remember seeing a couple of these movies and thought how great they were. today I think how sad they are considering our treatment to
the people we now call heroes and great and honor.
I watched a baseball game and how they marched men in military uniform out and people applauded and cheered. But do we help them when their service is done/
No we do not. We stand by as their homes are taken from them, as they are denied the basic medical treatment.
Yes these movies make me proud of the men that fought for this country. But it make me sad for the treatment we gave them when they were no longer
needed to put their life on the line and kill in our name. Yes it is Memorial Day but it must be more than just the memory of those who gave
with their lives we honor. It must be those who lived surrived and carry with them the memories of battle the scars and wounds both mental and physical
the we must also treat with respect and honor. Otherwise we shame them, their service and ourselves.
