Ignore the donate now if you must. But click the tell congress

An insidious lie spreading around Washington, D.C., right now is that gutting regulations will help America's "job creators" restore the economy. Don't believe it. Eliminating crucial protections is not a way to make more jobs, no matter how many times Big Business and its allies in Congress say so. The reason so many millions are out of work now is that a deregulated financial sector destroyed the economy. Does Congress really think reckless corporations can be trusted to regulate themselves? Tell Congress: Stand up for commonsense regulations. Remember how Congress failed to do anything to prevent future oil spills after BP spewed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico? This is the way Big Business wants Washington to work: Instead of protecting people and our environment, they want to protect those who profit by exploiting and polluting our communities. If anything, the public's power to hold these reckless industries accountable should be strengthened, not weakened. President Obama was right last night when he said we can't let this economic crisis be "used as an excuse to wipe out the basic protections that Americans have counted on for decades." The truth is that Corporate America has reaped record profits throughout the recession.* Gutting important regulations that protect us will do nothing for job creation. Urge Congress to support public protections that protect our financial security, our health and our environment.
