Been quiet awhile since I had one. This one is about GOD and sports. I follow the Denver Bronco's and of course they keep pulling games out of their ass week after week since Tim Tebow took over as quarterback. The papers (even Wall Street Journal today), sports radio, and all the networks cannot stop bringing up this mans faith and mentioning God at every turn. I'd like to let you in on something. If all God has to do is decided the out come of a sporting event then I'm switching deities. It would explain a lot of crap that is going on in this world. You know like WAR, Hunger, Poverty, racism, hatred. Sure the leaders of religion and you can take your pick because as Mark Twain said "Man is the only animal with the one true religion. Several of them." The religious leaders always blame the other guy. Not only the other religions but that good old scapegoat the Devil.
For one thing take prayer out of sporting events. It's a game not a crusade where one seeks a religious awakening to the promise land. Right now some teams like Denver, or Green Bay 13-0 and you do not hear anyone say God's on heir side do you? Baltimore, Pittsburgh and others are riding high. Why? Because they are good and they are lucky, not because of their religion or a prayer before after or during a game.
The last time I was to an NFL game was over 20 years ago and before the game (it was in Denver) they asked people to rise for the National Anthem, but first bow their heads in prayer. I did not rise. I did stand when they played the anthem but not for the prayer. A woman behind said that I was Godless for not praying. I replied loudly enough so other could hear me answer. "Mam I'm here to watch a football game not go to church."
So when you go to a game, talk about a game, and cheer for your team, do it with the knowledge that hey God has nothing to do with it or it's outcome. It's skill, luck and chance nothing more. Keep religion in your heart, and soul not in a sporting arena.
