Join a credit union Daniel.  Typically they don't pay as much on an interest bearing account, as commercial banks do, (although like banks, rates vary from Credit Union to Credit Union) but then again they don't charge as much for home loans, credit cards and such.  PLUS there is the added advantage of being a share holder in the place.  So my friend I recommend that you withdraw all of your money out of all the commercial banks that you currently have it in and put into Credit Unions.  They have share accounts (saving accounts), and share draft accounts (checking accounts).  You can buy CD's there too.  About the only thing you can't do is borrow money to start a business or for an existing one.....after all it's not a commercial bank.

Well that once again is thank to rugged Ronald the asshole of asshole Presidents. When I was a child in the 1950's a passbook savings earned 5 1/4 % and it held there until Reagan came along and deregulated the banks. Suddenly banks went from a savings Bank to an INVESTMENT Bank, and rates dropped, and dropped and dropped. In some places to .01%. It is hard to save when you have to pay for every little service.
