But because the Taliban sold the rights to an pipeline not to us but to Russia.
Both the first Bush and Clinton paid the Taliban to destroy the poppy fields of the northern alliance drug lords. But after a visit in 1997 to Huston where Taliban leaders were told if they did not allow US oil interest to build and run the pipeline they would remove them from power. After that we saw and heard the stories about them blowing up old temples and sites, and how they treated women and did not allow the men to shave.
