Jim Hightower, Op-Ed: Say what? What? Hello — a budget is nothing but numbers — numbers that have, in fact, been run! Otherwise, it's just a political hoax. During his run in the presidential primaries this spring, when he was trolling for votes in the shallow waters of the Republican fringe, Romney embraced the Ryan budget, calling it a "bold and exciting effort" that is "very much needed." 
Rachael Marcus, News Report: "Former Ron Paul fan and super donor Peter Thiel gave another $1 million to the conservative super PAC Club for Growth Action. The super PAC took in $2.9 million in July and finished the month with $2.4 million. Joe Ricketts, founder of TD Ameritrade, gave Ending Spending Action Fund, the conservative super PAC he founded, $375,000. The super PAC also got a $24,000 in-kind contribution from its sister nonprofit, Ending Spending Inc., which does not disclose its donors." 
Robert Reich, Op-Ed: Originally he wanted to "reform" Social Security by turning it into private savings accounts whose value would rise or fall at the whim of the Wall Street casino. (Now he doesn't suggest any reform of Social Security.) You want real entitlement reform? President Obama has begun it. Rational people would make sure he gets a second term to: Use the government's huge bargaining clout in Medicare and Medicaid to push down drug costs and the costs of medical providers, and to shift from a fee-for-services system to a payments-for-healthy-outcomes system. 
Anthony Gucciardi, News Report: The WikiLeaks documents revealed just how closely Monsanto has been working with the United States government, and just how serious the U.S. is about ensuring that the corporation's GMO crops are widely accepted across the globe. Amazingly, the Brazilian court took a stand against this corruption. The court issued a fine of $2,478 per product that was found to violate the ruling after finding the presence of GMO ingredients in Nestle's strawberry "Bono" cookies. 
Jeffrey D. Sachs, Op-Ed: "In the past two decades, governments have come up short on solutions to environmental threats. Politicians have failed to implement properly the treaties adopted at the 1992 Earth Summit. Ban knows that strong government action remains vital, but he also recognizes that civil society must also play a larger role, especially because too many governments and politicians are beholden to vested interests, and too few politicians think in time horizons that extend past the next election." 
Dave Johnson, Op-Ed: Going up against a fully-developed industry like oil and coal is enormously expensive, and the industry is trying to block We, the People from triggering private investment to help get us out from under its grip. It has nothing to do with government interfering in markets, or "picking winners and losers," this is about us helping offset the enormous competitive advantage oil and coal have due to government investment and assistance in oil and coal in prior decades. 
Amy Goodman, Video Report: While Rove was almost indicted for the Plame affair, he has reinvented himself to become the most powerful political operative in America. Heading up the American Crossroads super PAC and the affiliated non-profit Crossroads GPS, Rove has built up a war chest that has given Mitt Romney a significant cash advantage in the fundraising race with President Obama. In "Boss Rove: Inside Karl Rove's Secret Kingdom of Power."

Jessica Goad, News Report: "Bill Koch is brother to David and Charles Koch, conservative heavy hitters who are virulently anti-climate science and have bankrolled right-wing groups like Americans for Prosperity and the Heritage Foundation. While Bill Koch maintains some distance from the political zeal of his brothers, he has given at least $2 million to Restore Our Future, a pro-Romney super-PAC." 
News Report: We will continue to put our bodies on the line to expose how the 1% are controlling our fates; how we are drowning in loans, student debt, fraudulent mortgages. That our democracy itself is being sold to the highest bidder, while our environment is turned into just another toxic asset. It is an uphill battle, but the very essence of Occupy exhibits how you are not a loan. Or alone. And that together, we are unstoppable. 
Kim Barker, Op-Ed: Corkery later had the group's tax return sent to ProPublica, but it was missing a breakdown of the group's $2.7 million in grants, some of which went to other social-welfare nonprofits heavily involved in politics. Corkery never responded to a request for The Annual Fund's application for recognition, or to questions about whether the group filed one. Though listed as the person keeping the group's records on its tax return, Corkery said he was no longer really involved with The Annual Fund. --
