Amy Goodman | Big Money Wins in the Big Skies of Montana

Amy Goodman, Op-Ed: "I never bought a man who wasn't for sale," William A. Clark reportedly said. He was one of Montana's "Copper Kings," a man who used his vast wealth to manipulate the state government and literally buy votes to make himself a U.S. senator. That was more than 100 years ago, and the blatant corruption of Clark and the other Copper Kings created a furor that led to the passage, by citizen initiative, of Montana's Corrupt Practices Act in 1912.

Robert Reich | Why the Supreme Court Will Uphold the Constitutionality of Obamacare

Robert Reich, Op-Ed: "Predictions are always hazardous when it comes to the economy, the weather, and the Supreme Court. I won't get near the first two right now, but I'll hazard a guess on what the Court is likely to decide tomorrow: It will uphold the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) by a vote of 6 to 3. "

As Exxon CEO Calls Global Warming's Impacts 'Manageable', Colorado Wildfires Shutter Climate Lab

Rebecca Leber, News Report: "Fueled by a warming climate, Colorado is experiencing its worst fire season in its history. As researchers at Boulder's National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)joined 32,000 other Coloradans in fleeing the fires, ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson spoke to the Council on Foreign Relations about the 'manageable' risks of climate change: Rex Tillerson said at a meeting at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York that climate change was a 'great challenge,' but it could be solved by adapting to risks such as higher sea levels and changing conditions for agriculture."

Fox's Brazen Star: Karl Rove Rebukes Obama on Executive Privilege Claim

Joe Conason, Op-Ed: "Forever incapable of embarrassment, let alone sober reflection, Karl Rove is very well suited to his current roles as Fox News commentator and Crossroads Super PAC smear sponsor. But he achieved a moment of near-perfection last Thursday when, appearing on a Fox morning news broadcast, he spoke up about President Obama's invocation of executive privilege against a House committee subpoena of Justice Department documents."

U.S. Water Policy Still All Wet

Shiney Varghese, News Report: "Growing conflicts over who owns water and how to manage it are emerging all over the world. Although debates at the UN and among civil society have moved toward the recognition of water as a basic human right, the United States still lags behind. Washington has instead largely supported private-sector approaches that will likely exacerbate conflicts over water resources. What is perhaps new is that the U.S. intelligence community is also looking at water as a potential national security concern."

Occupy: The National Gathering

Jake Blumgart, News Report: "Since the end of 2011, when police shut down most encampments, the Occupy movement's future has been uncertain. Without the long-term occupations that gave the movement its name, where would participants meet and make their presence felt? Would the movement be able to sustain itself without these rallying points? Would it release policy demands or try to bring down a big bank? The upcoming five-day Occupy National Gathering in Philadelphia will address some of these questions, but without attempting to speak for Occupy Wall Street, the Occupy movement as a whole, or anyone beyond those in attendance."

Bill McKibben of 350.org on Colorado Wildfires, Debby, Keystone XL, and Failure of Rio+20

Amy Goodman, Video Interview: "With extreme weather fueling wildfires in Colorado and record rainfall in Florida, the Obama administration has moved closer to approving construction of the southern section of the Keystone XL pipeline. We're joined by environmentalist, educator and author Bill McKibben, founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org. 'Today is one of those days when you understand what the early parts of the global warming era are going to look like,' McKibben says."

The Great American Mirage

Stephen S.Roach, Op-Ed: "In September 1998, during the depths of the Asian financial crisis, Alan Greenspan, the United States Federal Reserve's chairman at the time, had a simple message: the US is not an oasis of prosperity in an otherwise struggling world. Greenspan's point is even closer to the mark today than it was back then. Yes, the US economy has been on a weak recovery trajectory over the past three years. But at least it's a recovery, claim many – and therefore a source of ongoing resilience in an otherwise struggling developed world."

New Initiative to Combat Toxic Threats

Isabelle De Grave, News Report: "Reducing the risks associated with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats is the goal of a new multi-country initiative known as the Centres of Excellence (CoE). The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), representatives of the European Union and CBRN experts are launching a joint CoE, which seeks to improve policies and unite countries across the globe against CBRN risks."

Bernie Sanders: The American People are Angry

Bernie Sanders, Op-Ed: "Madam President, the American people are angry. They are angry because they are living through the worst recession since the great depression. Unemployment is not 8.2%, real unemployment is closer to 15%. Young people who are graduating high school and graduating college, they're going out into the world, they want to become independent, they want to work, and there are no jobs."

Latest News on Voter ID Laws

Keesha Gaskins, News Report: "With the 2012 election just a few months away, organizers and voters are working in earnest to support ballot issues, community concerns, and political campaigns. This year there is a great deal of chaos and confusion regarding what is happening with the unprecedented wave of restrictive voting laws that has swept the nation since 2010. Understanding which laws are in effect and what it will mean for the November 2012 election is crucial. One category of restrictive voting law that is especially important to navigate is voter ID requirements."

How Mitt Romney Followed Me Around the Internet

Lois Beckett, News Analysis: "As a reporter covering how campaigns use voter data, I spend a fair amount of time on Romney's official website. That apparently triggered an online targeting company to send me Romney ads wherever they could find me on the web. 'If you visit our site, you are likely to see our ads,' a Romney campaign official told me, when I forwarded a screenshot of the ads. This is the same kind of online targeting used by sites that sell airline tickets or shoes."
