Robert Reich, Op-Ed: He's determined to turn Medicare into vouchers whose value won't keep up with rising healthcare costs, and turn Medicaid over to cash-starved states. His comment about "47 percent" of Americans not paying taxes and taking government handouts was not only wrong (every working person pays payroll taxes, and every consumer pays sales taxes; and the biggest so-called "entitlements" are Social Security and Medicare, which are insurance programs that Americans pay for during their working years). 
Josh Israel, News Analysis: A memorandum from a Scout Executive in Yakima to the organization's Registration and Subscription Executive at BSA headquarters in Texas explains they'd "become aware of a suspected moral problem" with (the Scout leader). The Yakima executive received information that the man had previously been discharged as a Scouting camp counselor "on suspicion of homosexuality." The Scouts continued to build their case in the file by obtaining "proof" of their suspicion. 
Jeremiah Goulka, Op-Ed: I grew up in a wealthy Republican suburb of Chicago, where we worried about election fraud all the time. Showing our IDs at the polls seemed like a minor act of political rebellion against the legendary Democratic political machine that ran the city and county. "Vote early and often!" was the catchphrase we used for how that machine worked. Those were its instructions to its minions, we semi-jokingly believed, and it called up an image of mass in-person voter fraud. 
David Axe, News Analysis: "The executive order, which Devine said was devised by the White House over the past year, protects certain disclosures of classified information to Congress and agency inspector generals; creates an appeal channel for whistleblowers facing punishment; and promises that those who prove improper retaliation can be reinstated and given financial compensation. The Director of National Intelligence is responsible for ensuring that each agency puts new review procedures in place." 
Richard (RJ) Eskow, Op-Ed: Biden's shift can be explained by the third shadow: The President's apparent to throw away the enormous political advantage Democrats can still win for themselves if they stand firm in defense of benefits for seniors. Instead, when he was asked to differentiate himself from Romney on this issue he said this: "You know, I suspect that on Social Security, we've got a somewhat similar position. Social Security is structurally sound. It's going to have to be tweaked ..." 
Tara Culp- Ressler, News Report: Although medical professionals and federal officials have been recommending Gardisil for the past several years as an important preventative measure to safeguard women's health, studies like this are the direct result of a manufactured controversy around the vaccine that has threatened the fight against cervical cancer. Conservatives have raised concerns that vaccinating girls to lower their risk of cancer will somehow lead to sexual promiscuity, imagining that girls who take preventative measures against contracting HPV are more likely to take sexual risks without the threat of HPV to deter them. 
Amy Goodman, Video Report: "A new Mother Jones report looks at how the Romney and Obama campaigns are digitally mining personal data in order to get out the vote. Focusing their efforts online, the campaigns have been using cookies and various data mining techniques to determine which voters to target, and how to do it on a scale and scope that has never been seen before. The Obama campaign pioneered the data-mining strategy, and the Romney team put one together once he won the primary." 
Paul Buchheit , Op-Ed: "Studies reveal that relatively few business startups are initiated by the very wealthy. Only 3 percent of the CEOs, upper management, and financial professionals were entrepreneurs in 2005, even though they made up about 60 percent of the richest .1% of Americans. Instead, they invest over 90% of their assets in a combination of low-risk investments (bonds and cash), the stock market, and real estate." 
Malini Shankar , News Report: The women left behind were tasked with repairing homes that had been destroyed in the floods, as well as running households on next to nothing. Even today, "Women (lament) that government officials who interview them for compensation demand that they produce property papers (land deeds) in order to legally claim compensatory housing," Jaya Jha, coordinator of collaborative advocacy with Sphere India told IPS. --
