Once More, With Feeling by Justin Jones - Comment on the column If the death of Christopher Stevens, the late U.S. Ambassador to Libya, could be said to be tragic, then one could say with no less confidence that the American political spectacle that followed was nothing if not a farce of Tartuffian proportions. The reaction of all concerned was disturbingly predictable. First, President Obama condemns the act: "There is no justification for this type of senseless violence." The President, as we well know, is (was?) a lawyer; thus, the operative weasel words in that statement are "this type." This cleverly differentiates the sort of violence perpetrated by a mob of people with rocket launchers from that of, say, the remote-controlled drones that make regularly scheduled-if unheralded-visits to the hinterlands of Pakistan and Yemen, in violation of international law...
